A History of Support
Friends of ELIYA USA, Inc. is a grassroots organization established in 1999, to raise funds and awareness for ELIYA in Israel. Maury and Lisa Friedman spearheaded this effort after a visit to the ELIYA branch in Petach Tikvah. The Friedman’s founded Friends of ELIY- USA with a small parlor meeting among friends and business associates and ELIYA-USA has since expanded into a 501 c (3) organization.
Each year, in conjunction with our fall gala fundraiser, we produce an event that honored a major contributor and highlighted the achievements of the organization in Los Angeles. Other fundraisers in the past included a bike ride with the Los Angeles County bicycle Coalition’s Annual River Ride.
This year we are focused on building partnerships with various organizations and the greater Los Angeles community, while raising awareness in other cities such as Long Island, New York City and Highland Park, New Jersey. We have launched a meaningful mitzvah program and working with several synagogues, religious schools, camps and other nonprofits throughout the greater Los Angeles area to integrate our program and gain support for our cause. Our meaningful mitzvah / community service projects for teens provides them an opportunity to become ambassadors for the blind and help raise awareness and funds for ELIYA. We also launched a new fundraising events calendar including a sold out red carpet comedy night the the world famous Laugh Factory and other fundraisers at local restaurants, bars/lounges and private residences throughout Los Angeles. In 2013, we launched a young professionals division with unique events to help us raise awareness and funds for ELIYA. We also formed a Young Professionals Advisory Committee and Volunteer Committee.
We are grateful to our supporters ! We are dedicated to improving the lives of the blind/visually impaired children that ELIYA supports. “It’s all about the kids.”
